Families and children of all ages are welcome to the annual Teddy Bear Picnic from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m on Oct. 5, located outdoors across from Michigan State University's Clinical Center at 804 Service Road. Admission to the event is free.
Children are encouraged to bring a favorite teddy bear or stuffed animal through a series of stations and medical experiences in the mock clinic staffed by physicians and students from MSU’s health colleges.
Stuffed animals can come for a check-up at the Blue Cross Blue Shield Teddy Bear Hospital and receive an insurance card.
New this year, free flu shots will be offered to attendees through a partnership with BCSBM, Blue Care Network, Alana’s Foundation and the Michigan Community Visiting Nurses Association.
Other activities include helmet fittings, music, arts and crafts, balloon animals, face painting and appearances by Sparty, princesses and superheroes.
The annual event was created to help children combat fears of the doctor in a fun, safe environment while also encouraging wellness and healthy habits.
The 2019 Teddy Bear Picnic is sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Michigan State University Federal Credit Union, Compass Health, Meijer, McLaren Greater Lansing, Sparrow Health System, WKAR Public Media, Hope Network Foundation and Mid-West Center for Sleep Disorders.
