Dr. Lee Baugh is a professor in the Department of Radiology and Director of the Center for Imaging and Image Guided Therapy at Michigan State University. His research examines how the brain supports skilled movement, learning, and decision-making, and how neurological disease and injury affect these processes. His work integrates neuroimaging, electroencephalography (EEG), noninvasive brain stimulation, and behavioral assessment to understand brain function and explore approaches to improving rehabilitation.

Dr. Baugh earned a BA in Psychology from the University of Waterloo and an MA and PhD in Brain and Cognitive Sciences from the University of Manitoba. He completed his postdoctoral training at the Centre for Neuroscience Studies at Queen’s University. Before joining MSU, he spent 15 years on the faculty of the University of South Dakota’s Sanford School of Medicine, where his leadership roles included directing the Human Functional Imaging Core, the Center for Genetics and Behavioral Health, and the Center for Brain and Behavior Research. He has also served as a Research Scientist with the Veterans Administration since 2012.

At MSU, Dr. Baugh aims to strengthen interdisciplinary collaborations that connect imaging innovation with clinical research and patient care. He is committed to developing shared research resources and mentoring the next generation of scientists and clinicians.

Outside of his research and academic work, Dr. Baugh has a love/hate relationship with running stupidly long distances in the woods (ultramarathons).
